With the aim to product 3 million kilos confectionery boxes,the Finish chocolate plant in Finland looked for a solution to make production with less waste and improved energy efficiency.
The factory machines have been updated and the automation rate has been improved greatly over the past decade.They realized that the root causes of the production problems didn't find out immediately. "We wanted to improve data collection, get rid of manual logging and better understand cause-and-effect relationships."
Siemens' leading industrial IoT as a service solution, MindSphere, was chosen as the technology platform, on top of which an application tailored to Orkla's needs was developed. The most important features of the first phase of the application are the driving record and the reporting tool.
The automation solution for the Chocostar line has been built using Siemens' technology solutions. Components can be connected to the MindSphere environment regardless of the manufacturer.
"We are now getting much more information about the process, which will help us avoid mistakes in the future", said Arto Liimatainen, technical manager at the Orkla factory.
Not only in product develpment and quality control, but also in versatile use, the application make the work become easier. For the workers no longer need to search for information in paper templateds and handwritten memos.The data is automatically saved, freeing up the time previously spent manually on other tasks. At the same time, the mistakes has been avoid and the energy efficiency of the process improved.
